Portuguese giants Benfica are ready to sell yet another one of their star players this transfer window. After seeing Ruben Dias moving to Manchester City in a deal worth €70m, it now seems that Tottenham Hotspur are ready to land Carlos Vinicius. A report by Goal claims that the striker is set to join the Spurs on a season-long loan with the English club then having the option to sign him on a permanent transfer for €45m.
The 25-year-old is set to become Tottenham’s sixth summer signing but he will be welcomed as the most important one of all. Vinicius will be signed to act as cover for Harry Kane. The England international is one of the world’s best forwards but has often missed out on important matches due to fitness issues and injuries. Jose Mourinho had his sights on a back-up for his star striker for some time and it now seems he has finally found one.
Benfica boss Jorge Jesus left Vinicius out of his squad for their 2-0 home win against Moreirense past weekend and that has fueled the rumours that he could be on the move. Vinicius joined Benfica in the summer of 2019 from Napoli and he has scored 24 goals in 49 games for Benfica. Internazionale and Juventus have also been linked with a move for the Brazilian in recent weeks, but neither club has ever made an approach for the 25-year-old.
UPDATE: Spurs confirm signing of Benfica striker on loan
