John Stones turned down a late loan move from Tottenham Hotspur, reports the Daily Star. The English centre-back has fallen down the pecking order at City and is not expected to receive much game time this season. With the European Championship on its way next summer it was expected that Stones would be open to leave City during the transfer window. But it is understood the defender was reluctant to leave City and decided to reject a move to Spurs.
Jose Mourinho’s side were desperate to land a new central defender this transfer window after the club saw Jan Vertonghen leaving the club after seven seasons. The London club had been linked with various defenders, including Chelsea‘s Antonio Rudiger and Internazionale‘s Milan Skriniar. Deals failed and that made Spurs decide to make a final day offer for Stones. They hopes the defender would be available for a loan deal at it seems City were open to the idea of sending Stones out on loan.
Stones has only featured once for City this season and following the arrival of Ruben Dias his game time look to be limited even further. Despite his lack of perspective the England international has decided to stick with City for at least the first few months of the 2020-21 campaign. If fails to convince Guardiola to play him more he could always decide to complete a transfer during the January transfer window.
