Bayern Munich boss Hansi Flick has been given a warning by his own board for his comments on the possible transfer of Callum Hudson-Odoi. The German giants were heavily linked with a move for the talented English winger but were unable to find a deal with Chelsea. After missing out on Hudson-Odoi, Flick has been given a warning by his own club after he made it publicly known he was interested in signing the winger.
“He is one of the greatest talents in this position. He can play on the outside, but also as a ten. That is why it is legitimate for us to deal with him,” Flick said 48 hours before Monday’s deadline. At that point Bayern and Chelsea were in heavy talks to find a deal for the young England international. Bayern believe that Flick’s commented did not help at all and he has been given a warning not to comment on players in the future.
Bayern have been interested in signing Hudson-Odoi since the winter of 2019. The youngster was close to complete a deal to the Bundesliga in January last year, a move that eventually broke down after Chelsea rejected to sell the winger for anything less than €100m. This summer Bayern re-ignited their interest but failed to reach an agreement with Chelsea over a loan-deal with an option to buy.
