FC Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman has praised Lionel Messi for his professionalism. The Dutch coach arrived this summer after he replaced Quique Setien. At that time Messi wanted to leave the club and he even submitted an official transfer request. Barcelona blocked a transfer and Messi eventually decided to stay at the club and complete the final year of his contract.
Koeman might have feared that an unhappy Messi would be difficult to manage but the former Everton and Feyenoord boss has been delighted with the mentality and the form of the Argentinian forward this season. “He does everything I expect from a player and a captain,” Koeman told an interview with Dutch outlet NOS.
“After arriving as coach here I went to visit Leo in his house to discuss his future. He was clear about his discontent. In the end the situation turned out well and from the moment he indicated he would stay he has been excellent.” Messi has played in all three of Barcelona’s LaLiga games this season, scoring one goal from a penalty against Villarreal.
