Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has admitted that they have tried to sign Callum Hudson-Odoi during the summer. The German giants were in the market to sign a new attacker after Ivan Perisic left the club to return to Internazionale. Bayern tried to sign Hudson-Odoi on loan from Chelsea and tried to include an option to buy.
Chelsea rejected the approach from Bayern, and the Germans eventually decided to bring back Douglas Costa. The Brazilian has joined Bayern on a full season loan. “There are transfers that come to the point where you have to say: ‘We have to leave this immediately’,” Salihamidzic told Sport Bild. “It is all the more important that one thinks about alternatives or alternative paths right from the start.”
“We negotiated with Chelsea but there was no agreement. That happens.” He added: “(Hudson-Odoi) is one of the greatest talents in that position. He can play wide and as a No. 10 so it’s entirely legitimate that we at Bayern Munich are interested in him.” Hudson-Odoi signed a new long-term contract at Chelsea in January 2019 but it has been reported the winger is unhappy about his playing time under Frank Lampard.
