Bayern Munich boss Hansi Flick says he is optimistic about the recovery of Leroy Sane. The German winger completed a return to Germany from Manchester City this summer after he recovered from a heavy knee injury he suffered in 2019. While he featured in the first two matches for Bayern this season, he missed out on the 4-3 win over Hertha Berlin because of an injury related to his the heavy knee injury.
Flick, though, says he is very optimistic about Sane’s recovery and he expects him back on the team very soon. “I can’t say when it will be exactly,” the coach said, speaking after a DFB-Pokal victory over FC Duren on Thursday. “It looks very good. He’s doing training sessions.” Despite the positivity Sane is expected to miss out on Bayern’s league clash with Arminia Bielefeld.
In the mean time Bayern continued their form against Duren in the DFB Pokal and the Germans saw how Douglas Costa made his first appearance for the club since completing his loan transfer from Juventus. Costa started the match and managed to play 61 minutes before being subbed off the pitch. It is expected that Costa will replace Sane in the starting line-up of Bayern when they face Bielefeld on Saturday.
