Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho has slammed the plans of the Premier League to charge fans £14.95 (€16.50) to watch matches through pay-per-view. Fans are still unable to visit matches in the Premier League due to the coronavirus pandemic. To make sure fans will be able to watch their favourite clubs the league organisation launched to services at Sky Sports and BT Sports.
“£14 is a lot of money,” Mourinho said in his pre-match press conference ahead of Tottenham facing London rivals West Ham on Sunday. “You cannot even share with your friends as they cannot come to your house [in London]. It is difficult. I feel sorry for the fans. But hopefully this stops quickly and we can have some people in the stadium.”
The corona rules in the United Kingdom prohibit fans from visiting stadiums until at least the end of the year and it is even feared that fans will have to sit out the entire 2020-21 campaign. In other countries leagues are experimenting with fans in the stadiums but with the second wave of the corona pandemic currently active it is expected that these nations will also re-instate the lockdown.
