Liverpool are fearing the worst for Virgil van Dijk after the Dutch defender was forced off the pitch in Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Everton. Van Dijk collided with Jordan Pickford in the first half and couldn’t continue the match. While the club still have to examine the full extent of the injury, Klopp says the injury picked up by Van Dijk doesn’t look good.
“I don’t know [how serious it is], I don’t know, but it is not good. Virgil played for us I don’t know how many games in a row. He plays with pain, he plays with pretty much everything, but he couldn’t play on. That’s not good.” Liverpool will face Ajax in the Champions League next week and chances are Van Dijk will be forced to sit out the match.
Midfielder Thiago Alcantara also suffered an injury before the end of the match after the Spaniard was shoved by Everton forward Richarlison, who received a direct red card for the challenge. “When I left the pitch, Thiago told me in the red card situation with Richarlison he thinks he got injured. We will see if it’s true or not, but if he felt like this then we need to have a look.”
