Manchester City is considering a January move for Lionel Messi as the 33-year-old will enter the final six months of his contract. The forward decided to stay with FC Barcelona for the final year of his contract and up until this point he is expected to leave the club once his contract has expired. City hope to convince Barcelona to allow their forward to leave the club in January and could be offering up to €17.5m.
City are still considered as the favourites to sign Messi if he decides he wants to leave Barcelona and it has been suggested several times that the City group offered a contract worth €750m to Messi. With his contract running down, the English club hope that Barcelona want to receive a transfer fee as they would want to avoid Messi to leave the club on a free transfer in July.
Omar Berrada, City’s Chief Football Operations Manager, has already confirmed the club’s interest in Messi and he also insisted that they have the financial resources to sign Messi next year. City will be facing competition in their hunt to sign Messi as it has been widely suggested that mega-rich Paris Saint-Germain want the Argentinian in Paris next season.
