Zinedine Zidane had no excuses for Real Madrid’s 1-0 home loss to newly promoted side Cadiz. A first half strike by Anthony Lozano was enough for Cadiz to collect the full three points as they secured an unlikely win in Madrid and condemn Real to their first league defeat of the 2020-21 season.
“We’ve got to accept defeat and that’s all there is to it,” the Real Madrid head coach told an online press conference. “We can’t be pleased with ourselves and we’re not, but these things can happen in football. If you don’t get off to a good start, things can become an uphill struggle and that’s what happened tonight, but it’s no excuse.”
The French manager is also fearing an injury for captain and talisman Sergio Ramos. The defender was forced to stay in the dressing room after half-time. While Ramos needs to be examined, Zidane hopes it’s not too serious. “Let’s hope it’s nothing major,” Zidane said. “It’s a knock and we’ll do what we have to do tomorrow to see exactly what the issue is. Let’s hope it’s a minor one.”
