Arsenal are reportedly considering a move in January for Villarreal defender Pau Torres after they already had interest in signing the Spaniard this summer. Mikel Arteta is believed to be an admirer of the Spanish international and already tried to sign him before the Gunners completed a move for OSC Lille defender Gabriel Magalhaes.
The interest cooled after signing Gabriel, but Arteta is still looking at the defender as the Arsenal boss has grown uncertain of the future of Willian Saliba at the club. The young French defender joined Arsenal this summer from Saint-Etienne but it appears the club has been shocked by his level. Saliba has not been included in Arsenal’s Europa League squad and has not made a single Premier League appearance.
It is therefore believed that Arsenal want to make another move for Torres during the January window. Villarreal are not keen at all to sell one of their star players in the middle of the season but as the coronavirus lockdown is still very much in place, the club could be open to sell Torres for €40m. Manchester United are also believed to be preparing a January move for Torres.
