Former FC Barcelona defender Marc Cucurella has caught the interest of Atletico Madrid, reports Don Balon. The Spanish youth international spent four years at the Camp Nou but failed to establish himself as a first-team player. Playing for Getafe Cucurella has been impressing in LaLiga and that has interested Atletico, who consider the Spaniard as an ideal utility player.
The 22-year-old, who was recently selected as the Spain U21 captain, is a versatile player who is able to play on each position on the left side of the pitch. Diego Simeone has been looking closely at the Getafe player and it is believed he has been impressed enough to give his club the green light to prepare an offer for Cucurella next summer.
After he joined Getafe on a permanent transfer this summer, Cucurella expressed the desire of returning to the club some day: “Barça will always be Barça. It is my home. We would all like to return one day to what was our home. I work for myself, to have a great career. If one day there is the opportunity to return to Barça, the truth is that I would be delighted.”
