FC Barcelona are ready to complete the contract extension of Marc-Andre ter Stegen. Several reports from Spain have claimed that the club and goalkeeper have reached an agreement and that an announcement will be made very soon. Once the contract has been signed, Barcelona will be switching their focus to Frenkie de Jong.
The Catalan giants want that De Jong to become one of the integral figures for the coming seasons, alongside Ter Stegen and also Clement Lenglet. De Jong is currently in his second season at the Nou Camp and the Dutch international signed a long-term contract until the summer of 2024 just over a year ago.
Reason the club want De Jong to sign a new deal is the current financial situation. The coronavirus pandemic has a massive impact on the club’s finances as they announced a €90m loss over the 2019-20 season. De Jong will be offered the same type of contract as Ter Stegen, meaning his current wage will be cut but that his salary will increase over the years.
