Injury worries for Liverpool worsen as defender undergoes mri-scan

The defensive worries for Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool have worsened after the club confirmed that Joel Matip could be out of their mid-week trip to Amsterdam to face Ajax in the Champions League. The Cameroonian defender has muscle problems and paid a visit to the hospital on Saturday to undergo a scan.

Klopp’s side received a massive blow on Sunday after it was confirmed that star defender Virgil van Dijk will be out for the rest of the season due to a heavy knee injury following a hard challenge by Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford. Van Dijk will need surgery to repair the damage in his knee as he is expected to be out for six to nine months.

The absence of the Dutch defender will be a huge miss for Liverpool with Matip and Joe Gomez being the likely central pair from now on. However, Klopp now has serious worries on the availability of the 29-year-old Matip. The defender has some slight muscle problems and he underwent a scan on Saturday. While the scan did not show any major problems, Klopp must decide whether he wants to risk Matip ahead of Liverpool’s busy November schedule.
