FC Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has gone into self-isolation and will not be attending the Champions League match against Hungarian side Ferencvaros. Someone in his family has tested positive on the coronavirus and whilst Bartomeu has tested negative himself, he must undergo another coronatest to confirm that he has not has the coronavirus.
These results are expected on Wednesday and that means he will not be attending the club’s first Champions League match of the season. The news of self-isolation has followed reports that Bartomeu had met with the board of directors to determine their strategy for the vote of no confidence that he will face at the end of this month.
The president’s future with the club has come under great scrutiny in recent months. The members of the club are unhappy with the way he has been running the club which resulted in a trophyless season, a deteriorated squad and an attempt by Lionel Messi to leave the club during the summer. He has also been accused of corruption, though Bartomeu has been denying these allegations.
