FC Barcelona announce contract extensions for four star players

On the night they started their Champions League campaign with a 5-1 win over Ferencvaors, FC Barcelona have announced contract extensions for Gerard Piqué, Marc ter Stegen, Clément Lenglet and Frenkie de Jong. The Spanish giants have been in talks with the four players for several weeks and have now confirmed they have all signed new contracts with the club.

A statement on the club’s official website read: “FC Barcelona and the first team players Gerard Piqué, Marc ter Stegen, Clément Lenglet and Frenkie de Jong have reached an agreement for the extension of their respective contracts. These agreements have been reached following weeks of negotiations and include a temporary salary adjustment due to the current circumstances brought about the Covid-19 induced crisis.”

Lenglet and Pique have signed contracts until the summer of 2025 and 2024, while Ter Stegen has penned a new contract until the summer of 2025. De Jong, who only joined Barcelona last summer from Ajax has added two-years to his current contract until the summer of 2026. The club also announced that the contracts all have updated minimum fee clauses: €300m for Lenglet, €400m for De Jong and €500m for both Pique and Ter Stegen.
