Internazionale expect that star striker Lautaro Martinez will sign a new contract with the club in November. The Argentinian’s agent and the club have been in talks for several weeks and Calcio Mercato report that the talks have reached the advanced stage. An agreement is expected soon and while the paperwork is finalized, Martinez is expected to sign his new deal next month.
Martinez was the subject of heavy transfer rumours during the summer with FC Barcelona seriously interested in signing the forward. The Spanish club confirmed that they had talked with Inter and Martinez during the summer but that a transfer was impossible due to the clubs financial troubles following the coronavirus pandemic.
While Inter looked to accept that Martinez would be sold during the summer, the Italians are now certain the striker will sign a new contract. One of the major pros for Inter is that they will be taking out the €111m release clause out of Martinez’s contract. With his new contract Martinez will be matching the salary of Inter’s best-paid player: Romelu Lukaku, who earns €7.5m-per-season.
