The 20 clubs in the Premier League had to submit their 25-man squad for the first part of the 2020-21 season on Tuesday and some of the clubs have made some shocking decisions. Hottest news on Tuesday is the omission of Mesut Ozil from the squad of Arsenal. The German midfielder was already axed from the club’s Europa League squad but will be sidelined until at least February.
Reigning champions Liverpool have decided to pull out Virgil van Dijk out of their squad. The Dutch defender suffered a heavy knee injury on Saturday and will need surgery on his knee. He will be out for the rest of the season, making it senseless for Liverpool to include him into their Premier League squad. New signings Thiago Alcantara, Diogo Jota and Kostas Tsimakis are included in the squad.
Manchester United decided not to include Phil Jones and goalkeeper Sergio Romero from the Premier League squad. Jones has not played for the team for months and Romero has been dropped from the team after United welcomed back Dean Henderson from his loan spell at Sheffield United. Marcos Rojo, who was left out of United’s Europa League squad, has been included in the 25-man squad.
