With Frank Lampard confirming that Edouard Mendy is the club’s first choice goalkeeper, Kepa Arrizabalaga is believed to be considering an exit in January. A report by Estadio Deportivo claims that the Spanish international is keen on returning to LaLiga and that Sevilla are amongtst the interested clubs. Chelsea would be open to send Kepa out on loan for the remainder of the 2020-21 season.
Kepa became the world’s most expensive goalkeeper three years ago when Chelsea signed him from Athletic Bilbao. After a good first season, Kepa began to make mistakes under Maurizio Sarri and later on Lampard. Last season he had one of the lowest save percentages of the Premier League and that made Chelsea decide to sign a new goalkeeper with Mendy.
Kepa decided to stay at Chelsea and he was confident he would be able to hold his position in goal. However, now Lampard has openly confirmed that Mendy will be the club’s new goalkeeper, Kepa is open to leaving the club in January. A move back to LaLiga is what he favours and Sevilla are willing to grant him his wish. Technical director Monchi has reportedly contacted Chelsea to talk about the terms for a loan transfer.
