David Alaba‘s contract situation at Bayern Munich has been filling the transfer rumour mill lately. The German giants have decided to withdraw their contract offer to Alaba and suggested that the Austrian defender could end up leaving the club on a free transfer next summer. Head coach Hansi Flick hopes Alaba and Bayern will still reach an agreement.
Despite his contract situation, Alaba has been a star player for Bayern this season. He also scored in Bayern’s 3-2 win over rivals Borussia Dortmund. After the game Flick was asked again on Alaba’s contract and he said: “He was trained here, he’s been here for a long time and he’s one of the best players. So it would be a good thing if he continued to play for Bayern Munich.”
The German coach also insisted that Alaba will be the one who makes the final decision on his future while Bayern president Karl Heinz Rummenigge already suggested that the door is always open for Alaba to continue talking. Flick acknowledged the comments of the president: “He is now alone in the driver’s seat. He has to decide how he sees his future.”
