Germany boss Joachim Low says he will not rethink his decision to drop Thomas Muller and Jerome Boateng from the German national team. Both players had a key role in Germany’s 2014 World Cup winning squad but were axed from the squad in March 2019. Muller and Boateng have picked up a combined 176 caps and have been in superb form for Bayern Munich.
Despite their impressive form for Bayern, Low refused to reconsider them for his squad selection. “We basically decided not to pick these players, nothing has changed that now,” the 60-year-old head coach told Kicker. “We can’t go back now. They are great players with class. If a completely new situation arises for us next year due to the failure of key players, I will evaluate it accordingly and think about alternative scenarios.”
Germany will face Czech Republic in a mid-week friendly before the European giants will play their final two games in the group stages of the Nations League. Germany will first play Ukraine before closing the stage against Spain. Germany are six points behind Spain in League A Pool 4. The winner of the group will continue to the next phase which will be played next year.
