Manchester United are hoping that Raphael Varane will reject the offer from Real Madrid to extend his contract beyond his current expiration date in 2022. The France international has appeared on the radar of United and they could be tempted to make an offer if Varane decides to not sign a contract extension in the next few months.
Varane has been long-linked with a move to Old Trafford and recently Sir Alex Ferguson revealed that United was close to sign Varane in 2011. Instead of joining United he was picked up by Real and in the Spanish capital he has established himself as one of the best central defenders in the world, helping Real win multiple trophies, including four Champions Leagues.
The Manchester Evening News report that United have a good relationship with Varane’s management and that the French defender could be open for a move could lead to United making an offer next summer. Also, the 27-year-old has been under pressure recently after a series of poor performances and that could lead to a possible transfer.
