Jurgen Klopp believes that eight clubs could be fighting for the title in the Premier League at the end of the season. The Liverpool boss feels that his side are facing the tough challenge of retaining the title after ending their 30-year drought last season, especially with the congested fixture list and injury problems Liverpool have been experiencing this season.
With the big teams suffering from the congested fixture list, smaller teams will be able to benefit from the busy schedule in the battle for the title in the Premier League. “[I think there could be up to] eight”, the German answered when he was asked about the number of clubs running for the title. “An open race? I have no problem with that. That’s absolute fine.”
“[But] if we were to win it this year it would be a big achievement to be honest. Maybe a bigger one [than last season]. That’s what I love about the Premier League: there are so many contenders. Our start was not so bad. Yes, we had a special game against Aston Villa [in defeat]. Maybe we needed that. We’ve used it. [We have] Leicester on Sunday. Let’s see [how we do].”
