Real Madrid striker tests positive on coronavirus after international duty

Luka Jovic has been tested positive on coronavirus, Real Madrid have confirmed. The Serbian striker was tested on Friday after he returned from international duty and the test came back positive. Jovic will be forced to self-isolate and will not be able to play for Real Madrid this weekend.

On Wednesday the Serbian Federation announced that four members of the Serbian camp — three players, Milinkovic-Savic, Nikolic and Lazovic, and one of the team’s physios — tested positive in PCR tests carried out at the time. At that moment Jovic tested negative on the virus but after his return to Spain he has been tested positive.

Jovic has become the fifth player of Real to be tested positive on the virus and the third in the last couple of weeks. Eden Hazard and Eder Militao were forced to sit out the international break after contracting the virus three weeks ago. Jovic will miss the LaLiga match against Villarreal this weekend and then also the crucial match in the Champions League against Internazionale.
