Mohamed Salah and Mohamed Elneny will return to England on a private flight on Friday after the duo both contracted COVID-19 while on international duty. Salah was tested positive last week ahead of their first leg against Togo in the Africa Cup Of Nations qualifier, while Elneny did play in the first game but was then left out on Wednesday after testing positive a day earlier.
Both players will return to England but won’t be eligible to play for Liverpool or Arsenal this weekend. Salah will probably have to wait until Monday before he will be able to undergo a new coronavirus test. That would mark his tenth day of quarantine. Salah will miss Liverpool’s clash with Leicester City and most likely the game in the Champions League against Atalanta Bergamo.
Arsenal will be without Elneny when they face Leeds United this weekend. The two Egyptians will be returning to England on a ‘medically equipped’ plane and will be tested again once they have landed in London before they will return to their homes to continue their self-isolation. For Liverpool the positive test on Salah is the one of many injury problems the Reds have been facing this season.
