A report from Spain has revealed that super agent Jorge Mendes had reached an agreement with Manchester United over a multi-year deal for FC Barcelona wonderkid Ansu Fati. The Red Devils have been interested in signing the young Spanish winger and it has been suggested they made an offer for Fati during the summer. While Barcelona rejected these offers, it has now been revealed that a deal was very close.
Fati enjoyed his breakout season at Barcelona last season and has emerged as one of the best youngsters in the world. That attracted the interest of several clubs around Europe and United were very serious about a transfer. There were even reports that the club was ready to activate Fati’s €180m release clause during the summer.
Ahead of United triggering the release clause, Mendes and Fati’s father met with representatives of United to talk about a potential deal. Spanish outlet Sport claim that the two parties reached an agreement over a multi-year deal at Old Trafford. At the end of the summer a deal couldn’t be completed as Barcelona promoted Fati to the first-team, which automatically increased his release clause to €250m.
