Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini says he has urged his players not to be thinking about the match between Liverpool and Ajax and fully focus on their own result in the Champions League against Danis side FC Midtjylland. Atalanta and Ajax are on equal points in the group and the Italians will be traveling to Amsterdam for the final group match next week.
If the Serie A side beats Midtjylland on Tuesday and Ajax fail to beat Liverpool at Anfield, a draw in the final match will be enough for Atalanta to go into the next round. “We must only think about our game,” Gasperini said at a press conference. “We hope we can count on two results in Amsterdam next week, but it changes nothing. It’s a game we’ll have to play until the end. We need to think about Midtjylland.”
Atalanta will be missing four key players against the Danes, but will see German international Robin Gosens return to the team. “It’s the same situation of Saturday. [Aleksej] Miranchuk, [Ruslan] Malinovskyi and [Mario] Pasalic are out of action and the same is true of [Pierluigi] Gollini. [Robin] Gosens has recovered,” said Gasperini.
