Samuel Umtiti could be leaving FC Barcelona during the January transfer window, reports from Spain have claimed. The French stopper has been haunted by injuries over the past two seasons and he has yet to make an appearance for the team this campaign. It has been reported that Barcelona want to offload Umtiti for a fair price and this has alerted Everton.
The Toffees are ready to strengthen their squad in the winter window to keep their top four challenge in the Premier League alive. Everton enjoyed a near perfect start to the new season, but have been putting in some poor performances over the past few weeks, which has seen them drop back to seventh position on the table, five points behind the leaders Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool.
Everton are therefore looking to strengthen their defense and could be looking into Umtiti if he becomes available on the market. Umtiti has a contract until the summer of 2023 but he has already been told that he has no future with Barcelona. The Spanish club paid €25m to Olympique Lyon in 2016, but could be willing to accept bids under €15m.
