Paris Saint-Germain have moved in front of Manchester City in the hunt for Lionel Messi next summer. The Argentinian is set to leave FC Barcelona next summer after he already submitted an official transfer request to leave the club in August. His request was rejected and Messi decided to stay at Barcelona for the final season of his contract.
Shortly after Messi submitted the transfer request, Man City were put forward as the most likely candidates to sign him. It was suggested that the City Group, the investment company which ones Man City, were preparing an offer worth €700m. That would include a ten year contract with Messi, starting at Man City and then finishing his career in the Major League Soccer at New York City FC.
ESPN now report that PSG have moved in front ahead of City as the Parisians have the financial power to match the bid for Messi. The Parisians also have Neymar on their team and the Brazilian holds a very good friendship with Messi. The Argentinian is also close with Angel di Maria, Leandro Paredes and Rafinha and these could all help PSG secure the signature of Messi next summer.
