Portuguese giants Benfica are trying to persuade Sergio Aguero to continue his career in the Liga NOS next season. Portuguese newspaper Record states on Thursday that Benfica have offered the 32-year-old striker a three-year contract.
Aguero is set to leave Manchester City after spending ten years at the club. The Argentinian’s contract will expire at the end of the current season, making him one of the most wanted players on the summer transfer market. FC Barcelona have also been linked with Aguero but due to their financial troubles it seems very unlikely that they will be making a move any time soon.
Record claims that there has already been contact between the club and the player. Benfica has also tried to influence Aguero by contacting Joao Cancelo and Ruben Dias, both former Benfica players, to praise their setup and club. In the ‘second phase’ which is described by Record, former Benfica and Argentina stars Pablo Aimar and Javier Saviola will be asked to praise Benfica. It is believed that Benfica have offered Aguero a three-year deal worth €4m.
