Erling Haaland is looking forward to the upcoming World Cup qualifiers with Norway. The Borussia Dortmund striker is especially looking forward to the match-up against the Netherlands and in particular Virgil van Dijk. Haaland rates the Liverpool star as the best defender in the world and is aware he will need to be at his best to beat Van Dijk and the Netherlands.
“I think he is the best defender. I think quite a few others in the room agree with me on that,” Haaland told TV2. “He is fast, strong and smart, and there are three important things you must have. I have played against him twice. I have said that he is the best I have met. He is a good player, so we have to try to play around him.”
Norway and Netherlands will face each other on Wednesday in Oslo and both teams have six points after three games. Later this week Norway will also play against Latvia and Gibraltar as they hope to qualify for their first World Cup since 1998.
