FC Barcelona failed to sell Miralem Pjanic during the summer transfer window. The midfielder’s wage takes up a too large portion of the club’s available budget and the club is keen on offloading him. Rumours of a transfer to Juventus or Napoli did not work out, meaning Pjanic is now set to stay at Barcelona. However, it now seems that the club still has hopes that the midfielder will leave and they have now set their sights on a transfer to Russia.
It has been suggested that Pjanic earns around €25m per season, which makes him one of the best paid players in the current squad. His role – however – is very marginal and head coach Ronald Koeman already explained he wasn’t planning on changing that any time soon. Barcelona offered Pjanic out to several clubs, but a move never materialised.
Despite the club’s failure to sell Pjanic during the regular transfer window, the board at the Nou Camp are still confident that they could offload the Bosnian international. There are still several nations where the transfer market is still open, for example Russia and Turkey. Barca’s main focus is believed to be Russia. It will be interesting to see if a club is able to match the midfielder’s wage demands.
