FC Barcelona chairman Joan Laporta is currently preparing a new contract offer for head coach Ronald Koeman. Despite a brief period earlier where it appeared that Koeman’s days were numbered, the Dutch coach seems to have earned the trust of the new president in a short amount of time. Rumours are Koeman will be offered a new contract but only on one condition.
According to Sport, Laporta wants to start negotiations on new contract terms soon and he is willing to offer Koeman a new deal until the summer of 2023, including a significant wage rise. However, the president is adamant that the Dutch coach will accept the fact he will always have to play in the classic 4-3-3 formation.
Whilst that won’t bother Koeman as a Dutch football coach, Koeman is known for switching around his formation a lot based on the opponent. Since joining, Barceloa has been seen playing in a 3-4-3, a 3-5-2 and even a 4-4-2. This season Barcelon a has played in a 4-3-3, making it likely that the Blaugranas are ready to extend the contract of Koeman on the short-term.
