Liverpool star defender Virgil van Dijk suffered a scary moment on Wednesday during the World Cup 2022 Qualifier between the Netherlands and Norway. Early on in the second half Van Dijk collided with Erling Haaland and the defender then suffered a dislocated finger. The Dutch captain left the field shortly to have it pushed back into place before he returned to the game.
After the game Haaland was interviewed by the Dutch television and he said: “I think I broke Van Dijk’s finger,” the Borussia Dortmund forward said. “He came up to me and said, ‘F*cking hell, I think you broke my finger’. I have no idea how that happened.” In the end the finger of Van Dijk wasn’t broken but merely dislocated.
The match in Oslo ended in a 1-1 draw after Davy Klaassen cancelled out Haaland’s opener in the first half. The Netherlands, now led by Louis van Gaal, will play Montenegro and Turkey over the next seven days as they look to take control of Group G of their World Cup qualifying group. Despite the injury to his finger, Van Dijk is expected to play in both games.
