Lionel Messi is backed to help Paris Saint-Germain win their first ever Champions League this season. The Argentinian completed a spectacular free transfer to the Parisians after FC Barcelona failed to extend his contract. Former Barcelona and Argentina international Joan Roman Riquelme says Messi has it all to win the Champions League this season and then adds the illustrious idea of Messi then returning to Barcelona.
“I hope that Messi goes on to enjoy Paris”, Riquelme said to ESPN. “I don’t know if it’s strange, but we are all excited to see him enjoy playing with [Kylian] Mbappe and Neymar. “If they don’t win the Champions League now, they won’t win it. I think Messi will win the Champions League with PSG and retire at Barcelona.”
While a return to Barcelona seems to be unlikely at this point, it wouldn’t be a strange thought once his contract with PSG ends. He will be 36 by the time his contract in Paris runs out, the same age Cristiano Ronaldo is at this moment. He also agreed on a new deal with the Blaugranas before he left but then the Spanish LaLiga did not approve the contract making it impossible for Messi to stay.
