Manchester United confirmed last week that Cristiano Ronaldo had completed a spectacular return to Old Trafford. The Portuguese super star left the club in 2009 to join Real Madrid and has now completed a move back to the Premier League following his transfer from Juventus. Since joining United the cash registers at the Red Devils have been ringing non-stop.
According to a report from the Daily Mail, Fanatics (United’s retail partner) has confirmed that the shirt sales at the club have never been this high. When it was confirmed Ronaldo would be wearing the No.7 shirt at United again, sales sky-rocketed to a total which surpassed the highest for a day on a single sports merchandise website outside of North-America.
The report also states that the first hour alone already set a record for United Direct, the website that sells the club’s merchandise. It is expected that shirt sales will be boosted even more as Ronaldo is ready to make his debut for the club next week. In shirt sales alone the club is expected revenues that will surpass the €50m within the first month.
