Samuel Umtiti has changed his mind and is willing to accept a lower wage in order to stay at FC Barcelona, reports Marca. The French defender is currently one of the best paid players in the squad of the Spanish club and thus far he has rejected any approaches to lower his wages. During the summer Barcelona tried to sell Umtiti, but the defender rejected moves to Olympique Lyon and other Ligue 1 clubs.
It now seems that Umtiti is willing to accept a lower wage as he hopes to receive a new chance under head coach Ronald Koeman. The France international has been out of favour for the last two seasons at Barcelona after a series of knee injuries. Umtiti is believed to be eager to show his qualities to the management and hopes he can earn an extended stay with the club.
During the off season fans booed and jeered Umtiti as he was thought to be responsible for the departure of Lionel Messi. The Catalans agreed a new contract with Messi but were unable to register him for LaLiga due to their high wage expenses. Umtiti was one of the players refusing to accept a lower wage, resulting in fans showing their thoughts to the defender.
