Antoine Griezmann finalised his transfer back to Atletico Madrid on Wednesday after the club announced the return of the French forward on the final day of the summer transfer window. Griezmann has been signed on loan from FC Barcelona and they have the option to sign him on a permanent deal for a fixed €40m transfer fee next summer.
During his presentation Griezmann told the website he is happy to be back at Atletico. “I’m content and happy. I’ve been ten days unable to sleep because I was waiting for this moment, but now I’m enjoying it with my family. I’m going to give everything to repay the great effort the club made to bring me back. My part was easy. I wanted to come back no matter what; it’s always been the best place for me, the place where I’m happy on and off the pitch.”
Griezmann completed his transfer to Barcelona in 2019 for a reported €120m transfer fee. The forward never managed to settle in the Catalan capital and was often criticised by the fans. In total Griezmann played 102 games for Barcelona, netting 35 goals. The now 30-year-old has made 257 appearances for Atletico, scoring 133 goals.
